The Nottingham Lions will begin their 2015/16 NIHL Laidler D2 season on Saturday 5th September, with a road trip to Humberside to face the Hull Jets (5.15pm).
The EIHA released the much-anticipated fixtures at midday on Friday and the Lions’ campaign will include a 28-game regular season, followed by an April play off final weekend to be played at Ice Sheffield, for the teams fortunate to finish inside the top-four places.
Head coach Matt Bradbury’s side will face their first home action on Sunday 13th September, when Blackburn Eagles pay a visit to the National Ice Centre (7.30pm).
On Sunday 4th October, the NIC is the venue for the first meeting between Nottingham and the Altrincham Aces, after the Manchester Minotaurs, who were relegated from Moralee D1 last season, decided to rebrand the club using the famous old name of British ice hockey.
Other calendar highlights include another trip to Hull Arena, as the Lions meet the Jets for their final game of 2015 on Saturday 19th December, whilst the New Year is brought into the NIC on Sunday 3rd January, when Nottingham host Widnes Wild.
Midlands rivals Coventry Blaze are the visitors for the Lions’ final home action of the campaign on Sunday 13th March before the regular season is completed in Lancashire on Saturday 19th March, as Bradbury’s men travel to Blackburn Ice Arena to take on the Eagles.
2015/16 promises to be an equally exciting and intriguing season in Laidler D2, with Altrincham, Widnes and Deeside Dragons, using their financial positions to try and gain an advantage, the Lions, Hull and Coventry once again focusing on local and upcoming talent, whilst Blackburn and Bradford Bulldogs have strengthened further and have lost their whipping boy tags of previous campaigns.
