Nottingham Lions are delighted to announce the return of local-lad Nicky Balchin to the pride.
The 38 year old ex-GB Juniors forward is certainly a familiar face amongst the local hockey community having come through the junior ranks at Nottingham before going on to play for the Panthers, the Milton Keynes Kings and the Lions.
The signing of Balchin follows last weeks capture of D-man James Robinson and both signings should prove be a huge boost to the Lions as they aim to climb up the table in the ENL Division 1 North.
Nicky signed on the dotted line after training last night (Thursday) and seemed positive about helping out the guys in their remaining fixtures this season – speaking to LionsTV he said – “The coaches approached me to come and add a little bit of experience to the team and to see if I can help out between now and the end of the season – I hope I can have an impact, and score, maybe a few goals and help make sure we finish as high as we can in the table.”
Head Coach Matt Bradbury also spoke to LionsTV and was pleased to sign up the veteran saying “It’s fantastic to get Nicky back – it’s going to be great to see him on the ice – if you give him a sniff around that net then he’s going to finish a few chances”.
Nicky won’t be available for this Sunday’s fixture against Telford at the NIC but Matt is hoping to see him pull on that jersey very soon, adding – “He’s not skated for a while and it’s going to take him a while to get into it – but for me he’s added value and he’s another pair of eyes and ears – I’ve known him for a considerable amount of time and its great to welcome him on board”.
Both interviews are now available to view online at our LionsTV Channel.
