The Nottingham Lions face an anxious wait this evening as tomorrow’s opponents the Blackburn Hawks travel to Coventry to take on the ENL Blaze (5pm face-off).

Should the Blaze come out of the game victorious then that would condemn the Lions to a two-legged play-off battle with the runners-up in Division 2 North – Sutton Sting, with the winner claiming their place in Division 1 for next season and the loser playing Division 2 hockey next September.

If the game is drawn or if the Hawks come away with the two points tonight, this would then give the Lions a chance to gain a result in their second game against the Lancashire side in eight days at the National Ice Centre (7.15pm face-off). Although two points (or possibly one) from their final game of the regular season would still mean an nail-biting wait until next Saturday to find out the result of Coventry’s last game at Trafford Metros.

Blackburn are still the only team in the Division that the Lions have yet to take points off this season and whatever the outcome of tonight’s game at the Skydome, Matt Bradbury’s men are sure to be giving it everything they’ve got against a Hawks side who have only lost once in their last thirteen games.
