Lions Head Coach Matt Bradbury yesterday called on the Panthers faithful to come down and support Nottingham’s other senior hockey team as they prepare to take on the Solihull Barons at the National Ice Centre on Sunday (18th December).
“With the Panthers not playing Sunday night we’d love a bumper crowd to really get behind the boys” said Bradbury, adding “our ticket prices are the best value in the league so you really do get your money’s worth and it should be a great game with both camps looking for an big win before the festive break kicks in”.
Both sides will be going all out for a victory in what is a vital game at the foot of the ENL Division 1 North. The Lions currently sit just above the relegation places on 13 points whilst Solihull are propping-up the table on 9 points but have three games in hand over Nottingham.
Matt Bradbury also spoke of the importance of a good crowd – “Getting people through the doors really does make a huge difference, not only to the guys out there on the ice but also to the organisation as a whole – we’re in constant need of funds to assist with the running costs of the team and to continue the good work we’re doing here, coaching and nurturing the next generation of hockey players in the city”.
“We’re a self-financing team with the players paying monthly fees to train and bus fares to travel away, we are playing against teams like Solihull that had 700 plus fans paying £6.00 a head to watch their recent victory over Coventry, 600 plus fans watching Billingham versus Whitley – we can only dream of that and our team could live off the back of that for a whole season! – when we played Billingham here at the NIC twice we made a profit, after our costs of £24.00!!”
Nottingham will be looking to get back to winning ways against a Solihull side whom they beat 6-2 at the NIC back in October. It will be last time the two teams meet in the league this season with the Barons winning both their home games by the odd goal at Solihull Ice Rink.
After last weekend’s short-benched defeat at second-placed Whitley Bay the Lions are almost back to full strength for Sunday’s game with only Chris Colegate, Alan Levers, Elliot Perrin and Matt Greaves out through injury.
Face-Off is at 7.15pm – come along and join the roar!!
