Defenceman Luke Smith is the latest player to return to The Den for the 2017/18 season as the 23-year-old Solihull native puts pen to paper for another year with the Nottingham Lions after previous stints with Solihull Barons & Coventry Blaze NIHL.

Head coach Matt Bradbury couldn’t be happier that Smith has agreed to return for another season, saying:

“Luke came to us last season and did a great job with a view to learning more about the game to develop himself further and that’s exactly what he’s doing.

“He’s a big player and really gets stuck in, moves the puck well and is happy to help his netminder and teammates out. Most importantly Luke enjoys his hockey and is another good team player that fits the mould for the Lions this season and we look forward to having him on board again.”

Smith himself is very much looking forward to playing at the level of NIHL 1, saying:

“I am excited to be playing in a higher league, it will be a challenge but one I can't wait for. We have a good team with great team spirit and with some great new signings, hard work and commitment we will have an exciting season.”
