Third place meets first in today’s big Laidler Conference clash at the National Ice Centre as the Nottingham Lions host Deeside Dragons (7.30pm) in one of the most hotly anticipated games of the season so far.
Luke Branin in action during the Lions’ 8-6 win over the Dragons at the NIC back in September 2012.
Both sides will be aware that something will have to give this evening, as the league’s two in-form teams meet up, with the Lions on the back of a four-game winning streak and the high-flying Dragons having gained maximum points from their last three encounters.
The spoils were shared in last season’s two encounters at the NIC, September 2012 saw the Lions claim an exciting 8-6 victory, helped along by a Joe Wightman hat-trick and a Mikey Rose brace. The Dragons got their revenge last February as they came out the victors, with a 5-3 decision. Two goals from Luke Branin and one from Rose were not enough to prevent the defeat.
Matt Bradbury’s side hope to have their full roster available, with no reported injuries or suspensions, whilst once again Canadian Chris Allen, American Luke Branin and Pole Slawomir Kasprzak will all be jostling for the two available import spaces.
The Lions experience represents great value for money – ticket prices start from just £2.50 and with the Panthers’ game finishing just before the Lions’ face off, there really is no better time to come down and help roar the boys on to victory.
