The Nottingham Lions are delighted to announce the return of former Great Britain international Warren Tait to the pride, ahead of their forthcoming 2017/18 NIHL Moralee Conference campaign.

The 36 year-old, Nottingham-born forward returns to the National Ice Centre having featured for the Lions in the second-half of their 2014/15 Laidler Conference season, before moving up to the EPL to captain the Hull Pirates, and then icing a total of 53 times for the Telford Tigers during their 2016/17 campaign.

Tait, who began his senior hockey career with the Nottingham Panthers back in 1995/96, also has twenty senior GB caps to his name, representing his country between 2005 & 2008.

A product of the Nottingham junior system, Tait had come out of retirement to join the Lions in 2015, having last played senior hockey during the 2011/12 season, on a two-way deal, icing for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League and Peterborough Phantoms in the EPL.

With the Lions opting to make the step-up to Tier 2 hockey this coming season, the former Steelers and Cardiff Devils utility man brings with him a wealth of experience, which should prove to be extremely vital, in an organisation where junior development is still very much the main focus.

Speaking to, head coach Matt Bradbury was pleased to have the veteran back in the city where it all began for him, saying:

Warren coming back to the Lions is a huge coup. He is well thought of in the hockey fraternity.  The knowledge and experience he brings to the changing room and on the ice will be a huge asset to the team especially the younger players, as he is a great role model, which is key to any up and coming hockey player.

“I see Warren linking up well with the core of last year’s team as well as our new recruits. He gives his all each time he steps on the ice and he’ll be a real help in the coaching department too, as he is currently working towards his coaching badges.”

The Lions’ pre-season preparations are now underway, with a large number of new signings and re-signings to be announced over the coming weeks. Keep your eye on the club’s website and social media for all the latest updates.
