The Nottingham Lions are pleased to announce that brothers Jamie and Tom Hovell have signed new contracts for the forthcoming 2017/18 season.
Defenseman Jamie (26) and netminder Tom (21) have both been part of the Lions’ set-up since the team’s 2012/13 NIHL Laidler Conference championship winning campaign, with elder sibling Jamie having made 120 appearances in a Lions jersey so far, and Tom featuring a total of 86 times, in between the pipes.
Both born and raised in the city, the brothers will be looking forward to what promises to be a very tough but equally exciting season, as they prepare to make the step-up to Tier 2 hockey, in the new-look NIHL Moralee Conference.
Lions head coach Matt Bradbury was clearly delighted to have the duo back on board and recognised their commitment but also the need for improvement next season, with the quality of the opposition visiting the National Ice Centre drastically improving, and said:
“Jamie is back working in Nottingham next season which will be a huge relief, as he was travelling from Liverpool for both training and games. His commitment clearly shone out last year and I'd expect no different this season. It will be a huge step up for him but I'm sure he will be in good shape in time for the start of the season and up for the challenge ahead.”
Going on to speak about Jamie’s brother Tom, Bradbury added:
“Along with most coaches, I always want more from my netminders, as they are the team’s backbone and need to be potential match winners, and it's key that Tom focuses on the tough season ahead. We need our players competing for ice time next year and it will be exactly the same for our netminders too.
“He is still only young at 21 and he still has a lot to learn. He had an okay season last year, but I think with more competition this time around, he will have no choice but to really push on for the start of the forthcoming season.”
