Hull NIHL Stingrays are the visitors to the National Ice Centre this Sunday as the Nottingham Lions continue their quest for promotion.

Nottingham currently sit in third place in Division Two North, one point behind Sheffield and Deeside but crucially they have three games in hand over both teams, which could prove to be vital in determining who finishes in the automatic promotion spot come the end of March.

Mikey Rose celebrates scoring against his former team during the Lions’ 8-0 win back in September.

The Lions ran out 6-0 winners over the Stingrays last weekend at Hull Ice Arena, helped along by two goals from winger Gareth O’Flaherty. However, the Humbersiders are one of only two teams to inflict a defeat on Matt Bradbury’s men so far this season.

The Stingrays ran out 5-3 winners at Hull Arena back in November after a disappointing show from the Lions. Nottingham found themselves three goals down with 36 minutes on the clock but goals from Joe Wightman, Ollie Betteridge and Luke Branin quickly got the Lions back on level terms. However, a resilient Hull side rallied and Chris Hogarth put the home side back in front before James Maughan finished the game with an empty-netter.

The two sides first met in September in the Lions’ first home game of the season with Nottingham claiming a resounding 8-0 victory in a game which saw veteran Simon Hunt claim a brace and the Man of the Match award on his Lions debut.

The Lions’ bench looks set to be unchanged from last Sunday’s win, although there is a possibility Simon Hunt and Alan Levers may return after missing out last weekend.

So get yourselves down to the NIC this Sunday for some great value hockey action! It’s another massive game for the boys and you can help roar them on to victory! Face off is at 7.15pm.
