The Nottingham Lions would like to congratulate the Nottingham Leopards, who were crowed Division 1 North league champions yesterday evening, with a 5-0 win over Manchester at the National Ice Centre.

005Sam Illsley - captained the Leopards to the league title.

The Leopards, who only suffered one defeat all season, are one of the two Under-18s teams which form part of the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club and they sealed the league title in style by shutting-out their visitors, in what was their final game of the season.

Their nearest opponents Whitley Bay Braves are now two points behind the Leopards in the standings and still have a game in-hand but now cannot catch Nottingham due to the Leopards' superior head-to-head record over their North-East rivals.

There were also many familiar faces in the Leopards’ line-up, as a number of the team have already made their Lions debuts this season and this can only bode well for the future of the Lions, with many of head coach Sean Alderson's team now fully graduating to the senior team next season.

You will be able to see a number of these promsing youngsters pull on a Lions' jersey this Sunday at the NIC (7.30), as the Lions take on Hull Jets in their final game of the regular season.
