The Nottingham Lions are delighted to reveal the netminding tandem for the 2019/20 NIHL season.
First is the return to Nottingham of 23 year-old Tom Hovell after a season playing for the Telford Tigers, where he posted a save percentage of .902. Head Coach Matt Bradbury said “It was a no brainer for Tom to come back home this season, he will have picked up some good experiences and learnt a lot from his season away and I’m sure we’ll see a difference in his game which will only benefit us next season.”
Second is a new face to the Lions with Josh Crane moving from Coventry Blaze to The Pride. Crane is no stranger to Hovell or Coach Bradbury having been part of the 2019 Great Britain Universiade squad. Bradbury said “Having worked with Josh through the GB selection process and at the games what impressed me the most was his focus, commitment to the sport and his desire to improve and help his team mates, and as a coach you can ask no more.
We know it’s going to be another tough campaign ahead. What excites me the most is that we have two netminders that will not only work together but also challenge and push each other providing healthy competition which will ultimately kick back and benefit the team.”
Regarding netminders coming through Bradbury added “We mustn’t also forget that we have young Luca Sheldon who has a great future with us over the next few years having put in some terrific performances last season - As part of his development I expect Luca to push on with the under 18’s and 20’s setting himself the target of being one of the top netties in the league returning some serious stats.”
