Nottingham Lions 13 Blackburn Eagles 0
The Nottingham Lions continued their unbeaten start to the season with a dominant performance against a hapless Blackburn Eagles side on Sunday evening at the National Ice Centre.
No fewer than ten different Lions players found the back of the net in the one-sided affair which saw Canadian Jose Leon bag a debut goal and Reece Glossop record his first senior strike.
A positive early showing from Matt Bradbury’s men failed to trouble the scoreboard operator as Eagles goalie Nick Saxton reproduced the kind of form he showed in the Lions’ visit to Blackburn back in September.
Nottingham eventually made a deserved breakthrough after nine minutes via Christy Johnson-Brown but failed to break the Eagles’ resolve, having to wait a further twenty minutes before they found a second goal thanks to the handiwork of youngster Ollie Betteridge.
Four goals in five minutes opened Blackburn’s floodgates as Joe Wightman, Ben Wood and Gareth O’Flaherty all got on the board as the Lions ended the second period five goals to the good.
As the Eagles entered the ice for the final period their body language suggested they already had one foot on the bus back to Lancashire and this proved to be the case as the Lions romped home with a further eight goals.
Strikes from Simon Hunt on the power play and Johnson-Brown’s second came inbetween goals from Glossop and Leon.
Wightman grabbed his second of the night with eight minutes remaining followed by strikes from Man of the Match, Luke Branin and Ryan Rathbone.
Top-scorer, Betteridge finished off the rout with fifteen seconds to go, scoring his fourteenth goal of the season.
The Lions now have a two-week break before they visit the Hull Stingrays on 24th November.
