Defenseman James Maughan is the next name to be added to the Nottingham Lions’ roster, ahead of the new 2017/18 season.
The 27 year-old D-man has put pen to paper on a contract at the National Ice Centre, joining from NIHL Laidler Conference D2 side Hull Jets.
Having played in his hometown of Hull for most of his career, Maughan also had a brief spell at Ice Sheffield, with the Spartans, where he iced 46 times, scoring 6 goals, over a two season spell between 2013 and 2015.
Maughan then returned the Jets organisation, where he has continued to feature over the last two seasons.
Speaking about James' qualities, Lions Head Coach Matt Bradbury said:
“‘Maughny’ is going to be a great asset to the team next season. He's mobile, moves the puck well and he's an honest player, with a no nonsense style and a passion for the game, which ultimately for me is exactly what we are after.
“He comes to play every night and he strikes me as being a great team man and it's no secret that I've been an admirer of the way he goes about his business on the ice for a number of years, when playing against him. When he became available, we were keen to snap him up quickly and I look forward to seeing him in the black and gold next season.”
