This was the second game of a double header weekend having been closely edged out on the road in Trafford the night before. However the camp were positive and the game the night before really gave us the jump we needed to get back down to business.
We battled hard matching Sheffield in every department however we just couldn’t get the finish we needed and a couple of minor errors were costly as Sheffield finished their chances getting the go ahead goals 3 times in the first two periods.
Going into the 3rd period 2-3 down – it was a case of shuffling the pack and trying something a little different with the line combinations which I am always prepared to do. This appeared to kick start a few things into action as we ran out 3-0 in the final third.
Special mention must go out to Michael Rose, Gareth O’Flaherty and Chris Colegate, it made it tough to pick the man of the match award – however the honours went to Captain Colegate.
We had excellent support from the home crowd all evening and it was a record breaking night for the opening game for a Lions game at home for a number of years.
It is now imperative that we keep the spirits high in the locker room, keep everyone focused and pull together maintaining consistency within our performances.
