The Nottingham Lions are pleased to announce the capture of forward, Josh Ward on a two-way deal with the Nottingham Panthers.

Ward becomes the third player to sign with the Lions on a special deal with the Panthers for 2012/13, following the capture of netminders Sam Gospel and Dan Green earlier this month.

The 20 year-old has just completed a season in the EPL with Manchester Phoenix, tallying 14 points (2+12) and the ENL Trafford Metros scoring 5 points (2+3) from two games. He also iced for the Panthers on seven occasions.

Lions’ Head Coach Matt Bradbury spoke to nottinghamlions.co.uk and was obviously delighted to capture Josh for the coming season, saying;

“It’s great to have another experienced forward in the squad and we appreciate the support from the Panthers organisation to enable such an opportunity to arise – we approached Josh recently at one of our end of season training sessions with a view to joining the Pride and after some consideration and speaking with Corey and other influential figures within the Elite League, he confirmed his decision to help the Lions out when and where he can.”

“Obviously Josh’s first commitment is with the Panthers but when they don’t have a fixture clash he will make himself available to support the Lions in the National Ice Hockey League for the coming season.”

Ward is no stranger to Bradbury who coached him during the Nottingham Under-18′s 2009/10 season when the youngster captained the team, grabbing 11 goals and 19 assists in just twelve games, and Bradbury is in no doubt what a class act he has signed-up;

“His vision on the ice is a joy to see and he’s got a fair set of wheels too, add that to his sharp shooting and finishing around the net, he really is the complete package.”

“We’re in for a very big transition year as we look to really bring out the best from within our junior programme and it’s fantastic to have a player of Josh’s skillset around the players and the team – we will also be able to offer further valuable ice time to Josh, particularly on our special teams as well allowing him to be a real leader out on the ice.”
