The Nottingham Lions are delighted to add last season’s top scorer Joe Wightman to their 2012/13 roster.

The 28 year-old forward has put pen-to-paper for the upcoming new season and is determined to better his 19 goals and 19 assists that left him topping the Lions scoring charts for 2011/12.

“It’s great to have signed up for another year with the Lions” said Joe, speaking to yesterday;

“ENL 2 hockey is a new experience for the team – but I know we’re all determined to get back into the top league at our first attempt and I’m looking forward to playing my part in that.”

It is another big coup for the Lions organisation following on from the re-signing of captain Nick Whyatt earlier this week and head coach Matt Bradbury was in no doubt how important an addition Wightman is to the team;

“It’s fantastic news to welcome Joe back to the pride for 2012-2013,” said Bradbury;

“Last season Joe was definitely the most valuable and consistent player – his attitude is second to none and he is a true role model with so much experience to pass onto the younger players coming through the ranks.”

“Nothing phases Joe, he skates well and is strong on the puck. Overall his playing style is laid back, chilled out although he works hard in training and comes to play every night.”

“What really impressed me last season about Joe was his face off winning percentages as well as for an older player, the more he got physically roughed up by the opposition the more productive he became in the points department.”

Keep checking for more exciting signing news later this week.
