The Nottingham Lions head up the M1 to take on local rivals Sheffield Senators this Saturday, in a big, top of the table clash at Ice Sheffield. (4.30pm face off).
The Lions have had the edge over their promotion rivals so far this season, having emerged victorious from all three of their previous meetings.
Back in October, the Lions clawed back a three-goal deficit thanks to four goals from Joe Wightman and a hat-trick from Ollie Betteridge, to beat the Senators 7-5 at the National Ice Centre. November’s trip to Ice Sheffield once again saw Nottingham come from behind to win by a 6-1 scoreline with Betteridge netting another three goals and Sheffield fared no better on their return to the NIC last month, suffering another defeat as Wightman grabbed a brace in a 4-1 win.
The Senators will be eager to avoid a 4-0 season whitewash at the hands of the current league leaders and will no doubt have all guns blazing in an effort to maintain their promotion challenge and restore the local bragging rights to South Yorkshire.
New signing, Stuart Parker looks set to make his Lions’ debut whilst Nottingham’s Ollie Betteridge and Sheffield’s Jonathan Kirk will be keen to impress having both been called up to the Great Britain Under-18s squad for the forthcoming 2013 World Championships this week.
