After a rather mixed weekend results for the Lions last time out with an on the road 1-6 result at Coventry and a 1-3 home loss to second place Widnes Wild the Lions again take to the road hoping to keep up the good run of collecting away points.
The results of late exhibit a trend that's hard to remember happening before where the Lions are hitting the heights away from home against strong opposition who they then fail to deal with on home ice where the Lions have tended, in past seasons, to be at their strongest.
Well today's game looks to be one of the toughest for the Lions as they have yet to gain the upper hand against a Sheffield team who came back to the Laidler Conference this season and looked, at one stage, to be really strong contenders for promotion.
Of late things have gone against the Senators with them having lost out to Widnes Wild in a 0-7 game and to top of the table Blackburn Eagles. It would seem, on occasions, that there have been a number of set backs throughout this season with some quite out of character results for the Sheffield team, butas it stands they still remain in a strong play off position. The Senators will be looking to come back strongly against the Lions having suffered those recent poor results.
The Lions have yet to gain maximum points from their three games against the Senators with the nearest they came to victory being the last home game when the Lions led the game until the final period but with only a slender 1-0 lead the Senators managed to come back and tie the game.
As the Lions move towards the close of the regular season and with few games left to make the play offs maximum points are required to be in with a real chance of gaining that final fourth place spot.
All still to play for but with the reality for all teams looking for a play off spot that the opportunities for success are reducing as this season draws to a close.
At least today's game at Ice Sheffield won’t be a late affair as the face off is planned for 1.45pm.
