The Lions entered the Trafford game with a fresh squad that had been together for a short period of time. Lions head coach Matt Bradbury said after the match ”we would find a lot out about our team on the opening night of the season and this was definitely the case”
Going down to a very early goal in the first minute didn’t help the cause however a positive response to take us into the first break 1-1 was just what the doctor ordered with Chris Colegate deflecting a shot from the point.
In the second period the impetus swung in our favour as we shocked the home team by going up 1-3. Tables turned once again at the midway point and the Metros pulled back to evens at the end of 40 mins (3-3).
It was then just a 20 minute game and I thought we were looking good for the point until a turning point changed the shape of the game with the Metro’s being handed a 5 on 3 powerplay out of the blue after a 5 man scuffle in the corner. Metro’s finished with a PP and an ENG right on the buzzer.
At the end of the game I the coaching staff asked ourselves the following 3 questions:-
Did the boys worked hard – Yes
Were we unlucky – Yes
Will we improve – Most Definitely!
Man of the match Danny Rose weighed in with a tremendous performance for his age on the D and , Griffy was strong in nets making some crucial saves.
