The Lions are please to annouce the return of Marcus Maynard and fellow defenseman Mark Corfield for the 2011-2012 season.
Maynard is a familiar face to the Nottingham having made his way through the junior system to the lions. Although this season will be different to previous season in that Marcus will be serving a two-way contract between the Lions and the GMB Nottingham Panthers. The 6”1 blue liner is renowed for his accurate shot from the point which will no doubt be put to good use this season.
Coach Says – “Marcus is a quality player that is a true athlete. His work ethic and commitment to the team has given him the opportunity to step up his game by signing on a two way contract with the Panthers. He is generally quiet and unassuming and just gets on with his job. I worked with Marcus in 2009 with the GB Uni team that played at the World Student Games in Harbin, China and was one of the players that scored in the loss against Team Canada. He is an inspiration to the players that want to patrol the blue line and I am sure he will pass on a lot to them this season.”
Also returning to the lions this season is number 4, Mark Corfield. The 26 year old has served his fair of time in a lions uniform and is back for another term. The renowned comic in the locker room often plays a different role on the ice as an offensive defender who has an eye for the back of the net. Mark has also served time with GB roller hockey.
Coach Says – “ “Corf” is one of the old heads we welcome back to the team this year. Prior to this season I coached him once when he guested for the GB Uni team versus Coventry Blaze in a challenge game where he impressed. He is a level headed player and is a great mentor to the younger guys coming through the ranks. He doesn’t panic on the puck and is quick to support his fellow team mates all over the ice.”
