About the Nottingham Lions

Founded in 2000, coinciding with the opening of the brand-new National Ice Centre, the Lions are the senior team of the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club and our commitment is to develop young players from within the club’s junior system and give them a platform to move on to a higher level in the game.

Currently we play a twenty-eight game regular season in the National Ice Hockey League’s Laidler D2, along with the possibility of qualification for the end of season play off tournament, should we be fortunate enough to finish in the top positions. All our home matches take place at the National Ice Centre, which is located in the heart of the city centre.

Over the years we have had numerous successes both as a team and in producing and nurturing the city’s hockey stars of the future, most recently with the Lions being crowned 2012/13 NIHL Division Two North league champions.

The team is entirely coached and run by committed volunteers, whilst all of our players are amateurs, paying to play, either for the love of the sport or aiming towards a contract with professional club.

Professionalism is key to every aspect of the team’s operations, from the player’s conduct both on and off the ice, through to coaching, management and our media & communications.

We are constantly engaging with our local community, whether it be through organising and supporting charities and fundraising events, through to visiting local schools and youth groups to promote our fantastic sport and the importance of an active lifestyle.

Each team member is extremely proud to represent the city and the jersey and continue to work hard to spread the good name of Lions brand across the city, the county and beyond.
